The Outer Cover
Our Ballistic Nylon 2” Foam Waterproof bed has a quality waterproof outer cover made of tough ballistic nylon (the type used to make bullet proof vests). The cover is both overlocked and sewn for strength.
The fabric is flexible, fairly shiny and feels quite soft. It is easy to maintain and closes with a quality zip that goes along one side of the bed. The zip is set in so it is almost totally concealed.
This cover can easily be wiped over by hand as it cleans easily. It can also be machine washed at 30 degrees using a proper cleaner designed for waterproof fabrics. Like other quality waterproof fabrics, it cannot be washed in detergent otherwise its waterproof qualities can be affected.
The Filling
These pet beds do not go flat and limp. We use 2" thick quality foam that keeps it shape and density, so the filling will not need replacing after five minutes! Foam is more expensive to buy initially than hollow fibre (duvet material) or wadding but it saves you money long term as it should last your pet for years.
The standard filling in the small bed is white polyurethane foam (33/125). The 33 identifies the density i.e. 33kg per metre and the 125 identifies the Newton Value i.e. the firmness of the foam.
We use white foam in the small pet bed as standard otherwise, in our opinion, the bed could feel too firm for a small pet whose body weight is relatively low. If you would prefer the blue upholstery foam in the small bed at the same price please ensure you choose this option when ordering the small bed.
The blue upholstery quality foam used as standard in the medium, large and extra large beds is 33/190 and is therefore firmer. It feels like the foam used in your sofa.
The foam is fire retardant and passes BS 5852.
The foam is covered in a thin netting to make it easy to handle.

Why not consider buying one of our machine washable over covers in either an animal print faux fur or fleece fabric to completely change the look of the bed and make your life really easy?

This bed is made to last. It is ideal if your pet needs a nice firm supporting bed that is not too bulky to get on and off. If he would prefer the same outer cover but with a softer ‘squashier’ feel we suggest you look at the Bronte Glen Blue and Green Ballistic Nylon beds.
